Life
Jim Tressel's life story testifies to the power of teamwork, both on and off the football field. Haling from Mentor, Ohio, his early exposure to football, thanks to fellow Hall of Fame coach and Jim’s father, Lee Tressel, laid the foundation for his life's intertwining with the sport. Jim centers his home team around his loving relationship with his wife, Ellen. When not failing at retirement, he greatly enjoys traveling to visit his four children and spending time with his grandchildren.
Career
Jim cut his teeth in coaching roles at Akron, Miami, and Syracuse University before he took his first head coach role at Youngstown State University. He cemented his place in the College Football Hall of Fame by coaching Youngstown to four NCAA Division I-AA national championships. In 2001, he moved to Columbus to take over as the head coach at The Ohio State University. His trademark coaching style enabled Ohio State to secure numerous Big Ten championships and a national title in 2002. After his coaching career, Jim returned to Youngstown and took up the position of President at Youngstown State University.
